Talk to any of my friends and they will agree that I am the luckiest thrift shopper around. I just seem to always find an amazing array of pieces whenever I step foot into a Opportunity Shop...and trust me, these feet step in A LOT! So, I thought I might just share the lovely little bits and pieces that I find along my way in a regular Styling Violet segment...Well Thrifted!

Besides luck, I do think that there is a certain amount of 'skill' to doing really well in an op-shop. I pick up pieces that most would not even look twice at...I see past the piece and think about how it will be work and styled with other pieces. I scan carefully for pieces that are on trend in colour, and then check for quality and shape. Sometimes all a piece needs is a little tweak at the tailors to make it current...It's not an exaggeration to say I save hundreds of dollars shopping this way.

Here are a few little pretties from an expedition yesterday....

Winter had us belting our favourite cardigans...now it's time to tie the knot! For an instant cardigan transformation, cinch to your waistline and knot in place. Not enough fabric to tie? Easy! Grab yourself a small translucent hairband and loop around the ends...Team your knotted number with a sundress, a maxi, a pair of tailored shorts...or simply add your favourite denim for an effortlessly chic ensemble.

I have a little secret weapon in my closet...the chambray shirt. Such a classic little piece, fantastically transeasonal and you can put it with just about anything! With the Melbourne weather keeping us all on our toes, my oversize chambray was an easy go-to this morning....it covers up against the chill, but is light enough for when the sun does grace us with it's presence. Right now I'm obsessed with colour, so I worked the baby blue hue of the shirt with some melon ankle-grazing skinnies, leopard peep-toe flats and some gold bling on the wrist (sorry gals, I need some practice at self-portraiture, so no outfit pics). The humble chambray really is a must have piece, in my opinion. Don't pay loads for one...get yourself to your local thrift shop first...that's where I found mine (with tag still on...brand new!) And once you have one in possession, google away for styling inspiration. Here's some to get you started. x
